American football in Poland is a relatively new sport with the Polish American Football League being formed in 2006. Since then the league has grown rapidly and there are now 34 registered teams in Poland as of 2015.
Teams in Poland play the same rules as NCAA College Football, with a few minor exceptions such as 12 minute quarters and no instant replays. The games typically take place at local football stadiums and usually have fairly decent attendances with a few hundred spectators watching each game. Many teams also have a band and cheerleaders as well which certainly helps to create a good atmosphere inside the stadium.
Whilst Poland still has a lot to learn about this spectacular sport, but year after year it’s attracting more and more attention, and the teams are also becoming better and better. We co-operate with teams from the TopLiga (Premier Division) of American football in Poland, but even if a team plays in this prestigious category, it can still be considered a “social level” if you compare this to the world scale.
The strongest level of American football in Poland is nowadays in Gdansk and three city area; the 2014 champions are from Gdynia, with Warsaw coming next, then Krakow and then Wroclaw.
