Salt Lake FC Football Tour to Krakow

Salt Lake Football Tour to Krakow

On the 7th May 2015 Party Krakow welcomed Salt Lake FC to Krakow as they took part in their annual sports tour.

Originally from the UK, Salt Lake’s players are all working for the RAF and are based in Cyprus. The first night of their football tour to Krakow was spent getting the usual formalities of a sports tour out the way such as setting the rules, and also fines for breaking said rules. Rules included not using their phones for anything non-tour related, not calling one another by their nicknames and also talking to a girl without introducing her to the rest of the group. Once this was all sorted they headed off to Football Heaven bar, who would also be providing their opposition the next day, to watch the Champions League semi-final before going into town to sample Krakow’s famous nightlife.

The next day was match day. Despite the evening kick-off , a few of the Salt Lake players were feeling a little worse for wear due to the previous night’s festivities as they arrived at Garbarnia Krakow’s stadium to take on their Polish opponents, Football Heaven FC. Football Heaven normally participate in a 6 aside league, but have recently started playing in 11 aside matches, so it promised to be a good test for both sides.

Led by their captain and owner of the bar, Grzegorz Reizer, it was Football Heaven who got off to a flying start as they scored twice in the opening moments. After the poor start Salt Lake had a bit of a rearrangement in defence which gave them more stability. They then started to get into their game a bit more and pulled one back, however this was short lived as Football Heaven soon restored their two goal advantage.

There was then a flurry of goals before half time, with Salt Lake going in at half time 5-4 up.

The second half was a lot tighter with both teams playing a more defensive game. 15 minutes from the end Salt Lake scored a spectacular goal from 20 yards to put themselves two goals to the good. Football Heaven pulled one back a few minutes from the end to set up a nervous finish, however Salt Lake held on to secure the win.

The game was played in a competitive but fair manner, and afterwards both sides headed back to Football Heaven bar for a well-deserved cold beer before Salt Lake headed out once more to enjoy Krakow’s party scene.

A big thank you to Salt Lake FC, and also to Football Heaven for providing the opposition and also the bar for a post-match beer. Here’s to many more successful sports tours in Krakow!
