Juvenia Rugby Club

Rugby in Poland – Juvenia Rugby Club

The top rugby club in Krakow, and indeed one of the top rugby clubs in Poland, is Juvenia Krakow. Orginally formed as a football club back in 1906 (the same year as Krakow’s two premier football sides Cracovia and Wisla Krakow), Juvenia rugby club first appeared in 1973. They currently play in the Ekstraliga which is the top rugby league in Poland.

They first gained promotion to the Ekstraliga in 2000, and they stayed there for three seasons until their relegation in 2003 to the second tier. They regained promotion back to the top flight in 2005 before relegation saw them return back down a couple of years later before eventually coming getting promoted back to the Ekstraliga for the 2014-15 season. Despite only being an amateur league the Ekstraliga is not regionalised so Juvenia have to travel all over Poland for their matches, which can obviously be a strain for an amateur club. Their furthest away fixture is Lechia Gdansk which is in the north of Poland, some 589 km (366 miles) from Krakow and can take up to 7 hours by road.

Whilst they currently play in the top league in Poland, their level is the same as that of a good amateur side in the UK, and they have enjoyed some close games with good level amateur sides from the UK in the past. The club play their home games at Juvenia stadium which is located about 10 minutes’ drive from the centre of Krakow. The stadium is well equipped with a seated stand down the side for spectators, as well as decent changing rooms and an onsite bar and restaurant.
Juvenia Stadium

If you wish we can also arrange for you to have a post-match BBQ with Juvenia which is a great chance for you to have a chat with their players and learn a bit about rugby in Poland.
